This year marking the year of the return, 400 years since the first slaves arriving to Jamestown Virginia, it was a significant year to visit my homeland with my closest friends.
We flew from NYC. Delta is the only airline with a direct flight from JFK airport to Accra. Ticket price was around 1300. 2 of my friends flew with other airlines which was about 400 cheaper however it had a long layover ranging from 4-12 hours making the trip significantly longer.
Elmina castle in cape coast is mandatory for trips to Ghana. It’s one of the slave castles which many of our enslaved ancestors were shipped off across the Atlantic.
Kakum national park has suspended manmade bridges over the rainforest. You are able to walk across the bridge and take dope pics.
My friends and I also had the opportunity to design our own cloth called Bhatik through a local fabric maker.
Thursday – Sunday, we partied every night!!! For great local spots DM me!
Shopping!!! Make sure you bargain all the time. The culture center located in Accra is the perfect spot to get souvenirs, carvings, clothes and paintings. of course local markets such as Makola are great places for souvenirs.
Ladies don’t forget to get your hair braided before you leave. It literally costs less than $50!!
